Evaluation and Analysis of your front page

When creating my College Magazine I took certain things into consideration. For example the Language used. I tried to use catchy, uncomplicated, young language to create a fun vibe. This is shown by the word 'Freshers' printed largely. Freshers is a large party and chances are the reader of the magazine is interested in what happened, this is one of the main features. Gap years and trends is also an important part of teenagers life and these are all registered in my magazine. I tried to cut down my short explanation of the story line because it makes it a lot easier for the reader to see whats in the magazine before they buy the magazine.

My colour scheme is pink, purple and black and this is due to the facts my model (Daisy) has a pink and purple folder. Then they all tie in together and create one piece that is co-ordinated together and creates this issues co-operate colours. The main 3 that are featured throughout this magazine. It's a fun bright selection that compliment the whole production well. Another main thing in this magazine is the font I chose this font because it looks young, fun and creates a great vibe from the magazine that it'll be fun and cool but academic and school-orientated at the same time.

The reason I chose my picture is because it's relatable and the model is of the age of the magazines target audience. It is of a good framing, a good quality and fits the medium close-up requirement. The model looks happy and like this is a good academic student(the props used i.e. folders, helps to portray this).
Other pictures I chose we-re not as suitable for example...
This picture here is unsuitable due to the framing and the proportions of the model. I.e. her arm looks rather large due to the angle of the camera and the framing.

Then this one here(see right) isn't as good because of the busy background and the text over it would be too complicated and make it hard to read and see the cover lines placed. Plus the models face looks shiny and she already looks 'too edited'. Which is not the morals of this magazine.

The reason I chose the name 'College Life' is because it addresses easily what the magazine is about and it isn't too long for example 'The Wyke Way' would be very long and not as easy to read in a hurry. College Life is grown up, sophisticated and straight to the point of what the product actually is. Plus I didn't want to aim for the magazine to be subject specific. I aimed for it to be a varied magazine with stories from everything. I.e. fashion, college work and some sports news too.

This task has strongly increased my Photoshop skills, that was the photo manipulation programme I used. I changed my contrasts and saturation in the picture to make it a more brighter, happy image. Also I slightly airbrushed the model to make her look awake and not as tired as she originally looked. I also made her hair lighter and toned down the stripes on her top so they didn't look too distracting to the audience.

If I would have done this exercise again I wouldn't of made many changes just a few slight tweeks to the images. I would of made my model wear a more muted top and also made her look more happy and enjoyed to be at school. I would of also chosen a less 'shouty' bold font. However taking everything into consideration I am happy with my efforts and I look forward to the next task.
